Big Scary Monster is a prime example of a label with a keen eye for talent-spotting and a DIY attitude has seen sterling releases from Get.Cape.Wear.Cape.Fly, My Awesome Compilation and the effervescent Wintermute.

On 22nd April, Wintermute culminate their album launch tour at 229 with expectation on their shoulders and fantastic, jerky math-pop to back them up. Drawing comparisons ranging from Interpol to At The Drive In, with a touch of Foals stop/start acrobatics thrown in, Wintermute are another clear example of a thriving and adventurous music scene in Leeds.

Wintermute make it very clear that it is never their intention to show off their superb technical abilities, merely to combine the rhythms and sounds that they think sound the best and create the biggest and boldest moods possible. Based on their album preview available on their myspace, Robot Works is an album full of direction, expansion and experimentation. The passion and energy in the performances reigns the instrumentation into a tight coil, exploding in 4 minute bursts.
